The habit of growing rose gardens was developed in the 18th century, when
it became common to reserve a specific garden area in order to grow roses.
During the 19th century, rose gardens became more and more refined, displaying
elaborate designs and coordinated colors.
This Rose Garden was first opened here in 1935. At that time, in its 19
concentric little gardens, 1.144 rose plants were displayed, gathering more
than 300 ancient and modern varieties.
In the 90`s, this Rose Garden went through a renovation, incorporating many
tea-hybrid varieties. Finally, in 2004, after a complete revitalization
process, many new kinds of roses have been added, composing a planned color-tone
display, and producing an image of rare beauty and harmony.
