The Royal Academy of Fine Arts' Gate was projected by Auguste Henri Victor Grandjean du Montigny, a French architect born in Paris in 1777 who came to Rio de Janeiro in 1816.
We can see in Debret's drawing below the architectonic composition of the building located next to Praça Tiradentes (Tiradentes Square), where the Academy of Fine Arts was located until 1908, when the building was demolished. The Gate was reassembled at the end of Barbosa Rodrigues Alley, also known as Palms Alley, with around 235 palms along its 740 meters. The alley completed 150 years of age in 1992 with trees over 30 meters high. It is undoubtedly one of the postcards of Rio de Janeiro.
