D. João VI (1767 - 1826)

D. João VI was the seventeenth King of Portugal. In 1808, due to the Napoleonic Wars in Europe, the Portuguese nobility left the country and installed their Government headquarters in Rio de Janeiro. In the same year, D. João created an Acclimatizing Garden which originated what is, today, the Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro.
