Herbarium RB

The Herbarium RB was founded in 1890 by João Barbosa Rodrigues, director of the Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro at the time. It is a basic botanical collection which provides the necessary elements for taxonomic and flower research. Its collection is composed of 330.000 plants including Historical Collections acquired last century by D. Pedro II, Emperor of Brazil.

Scientific Exchange

The Herbarium mantains a national and international exchange with institutions alike through its scientific collection.

Modalities of Exchange

  1. Donation x identification - exchange of duplicate plants for identification by a specialist
  2. Exchange - exchange of duplicate plants for other duplicates.
  3. Lending of plants for taxonomic studies
