Also known as carnivore, these plants capture and digest insects with juices
produced by special glands. They do not depend exclusively on the capture of
insects to survive, for, like other vegetals, they are able to produce their
own food. The 450 known species of insectivorous plants prefer to live in humid
and swampy places and the greenhouse offers the perfect conditions. The Botanical
Garden of Rio de Janeiro got its first species in 1935.
